Two
special chapters were researched and constructed
with the official participation of the United
States Army Marksmanship Unit.
First,
a genuine Service Rifle legend, D.I. Boyd shares
his insight and experience on the "new" rifle. Mr.
Boyd is Director of Competitions for the United
States Army Marksmanship Unit. D.I. discusses the
turn of events that led to the M-16/AR15 domination
of Service Rifle competition, including rifle
modifications, shooter "attitude" and training,
shooting technique changes, and ammunition
advancements.
Then
Service Rifle ace, Sgt. Lewis A. Tippie (also known
as "Mr. 500" for his perfect National Match Course
score) discusses his changeover from the M14 and
details the shooting positions and unique
techniques he's developed for the M16. Lew also
shares his insight and experiences on USAMU
handloads and rifle building techniques (he's also
a gunsmith) and even hands out some very valuable
tips on 1000 yard shooting.
